5 ways to maintain motivation
1. Practice
Part of the reason you feel less motivated at work is because you haven’t had enough time to practice. Not practicing the skills and habits that are going to get you the results you want is what you’re missing.
You need to create a deliberate practice schedule so you can become a great performer. Take 15-30 minutes every day and practice each of these exercises.
2. Self-talk: Have it good
Self-talk can have a tremendous impact on your mood and can improve your performance. But like most things in life, a positive self-talk can also have a negative impact.
A negative self-talk is what you do to yourself. When you’re giving yourself a performance “kick in the butt,” you’re likely to say things like, “I suck. I’m not any good at this.”
The upside to self-talk is that it has an extremely positive impact on your mood. Positive self-talk encourages and motivates you and can boost your confidence and performance. When you’re giving yourself a performance “kick in the butt,” you’re likely to say things like, “I suck. I’m not any good at this.”
Negative self-talk has a negative impact on your mood. It can give you negative reinforcement and motivate you to give up.
You can lower the impact of self-talk by simply changing the way you talk to yourself.
Take a few seconds to ask yourself a few key questions.
3. Tune in to your body
Does it feel good?
If it doesn’t, something is likely wrong.
Why is this?
Tune into your body and pay attention to your physical responses.
4. Imagine winning
Imagine winning. Do this often enough and it’ll become a positive way of thinking and feel like a reality.
5. Visualize your next action
Visualize your next action and focus on the outcome.
What will you do? How will it make you feel?
Are you doing your job the best way you can? What action will help you get there?
